CFP® Professional Membership

FPA CFP® Professional Membership is for CFP® professionals who actively practice or support financial planning in the U.S. regardless of practice type or compensation method.

The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) works in partnership with academic leaders, regulatory and legislative bodies, financial service firms and consumer interest groups to advance the practice and profession of financial planning. Our unique resources and nationwide network of chapters provide CFP® professionals with the knowledge and community they need to succeed and grow.

The Allied Professional Membership is for those who deliver personal financial services to the public or support financial planners in their practice.

Other FPA Memberships Available

CFP® Candidate

A candidate for CFP® certification who has applied to CFP Board to take the CFP® Certification
Examination, but who has not yet met all of CFP Board’s certification requirements. Members may hold this membership type for a maximum of 3 years.

CFP® Certificant Student

For students who are enrolled in a CFP Board certificate program with the ultimate interest of pursuing a career as a CFP® Professional. Members may only hold this membership type for a maximum of 2 years.

Faculty

For academics who teach full-time in a CFP Board registered degree program, certificate program, or a related finance or business high school or degree program with the ultimate interest of supporting students who wish to pursue financial planning as a career.

Full-time Student

For students who are enrolled in a full-time graduate or undergraduate, finance or business-related degree program with the ultimate interest of pursuing a financial planning career. Members may only hold this membership type for a maximum of 4 years.

International CFP® Professional

For international financial planners with global CFP® certification from the Financial Planning Standards Board. (FPA Chapter membership is not a benefit.)

Member Emeritus

Retired planners whose primary profession was financial planning. Available for members who have reached full retirement age (as defined by SSA) and, if employed as a business professional, work less than an average of 20 hours per week calculated on an annual basis.
